Playing With Different Art Mediums Can Help You Find Your Style

There are so many things that count as art. When you are experimenting, with a painting medium for instance, you may find something is missing that you don’t like in the style. So by adding another component you may be giving your artworks a unique look and style, that is unique to you. A wonderful Canadian portrait artist, by the name of Lauren Brevner, uses textiles and gold leaf with paint. Instead of painting the clothes, Lauren puts in textile prints which create an interesting and unique look to her portraits. Everything else is usually painted (sometimes the textile prints are added to the background and gold leaf is also added to the painted hair). When the artwork is finished, resin is added. Lauren’s style is instantly recognizable and her perception adds a new way of looking at portraits.

It Can Add A Different Texture To Your Art

There is no limit to what you can add to your art in giving it extra dimension. I have seen people that added pressed flowers or parts of old books with texts to their artworks and thus adds an interesting layer to their work. Nothing is off limits, it can be anything you can imagine, wool, clothes, even metal gears.

Pens And Colour Pencils Can Emphasize Your Work In A Subtle Manner

Certain pencils such as watercolour pencils, bleed and combine with the other paints, when water is added. This adds depth to the painting. The effect of combining the pencils with paint, mix beautifully and creates a unified whole, without any visible divisions. One of my favourite tools are Micron Pens which give a definite emphasis to my line work. Micron pens do bleed a little if you add water, so that the line is a little bit fuzzy, but is still different then the watercolour pencils. There are many other traditional mediums that can be incorporated in your artworks such as acrylics, pastels and even metallic pencils. It is up to you how much of an influence you want them to have and remember that you are only limited by your imagination.
