To Post At The Same Time Or Whenever?

To Post At The Same Time Or Whenever?

When I was learning about blogging, the advice that I often read was to post consistently. Recent advice has been not to post every day, but once or twice per week. Now, quality over quantity is favoured. Unless you blog in a story or diary format, it is difficult to come up with posts that are interesting and not repetitive. Initially I started posting every Friday. Then I started to experiment with posting on different days, just to see what happens. This is what I realised very quickly.

Posting At The Same Time Worked Better

Not only do my analytics show that people were coming on my blog, on Friday’s in greater numbers, but they would come on every Friday even when I had posted an entry days earlier. I see the logic in choosing a day or days that work best for you and consistently posting on that day. If I am unable to post on Friday, what I plan to do now is to post in the middle of the week and then post another blog entry on Friday. One problem with posting on Friday is that if I am one day late, I have to wait until Tuesday to post my entry. I use social media to advertise my blog. Years ago, when I posted between Tuesday to Friday morning, I received more likes and engagement with my posts. At the moment there is a pandemic, things have changed and may be different in the future as a result. Everyone must assess what is best for you.

Aim For Quality Posts

Posting for quality, forces you to make the most of your blog entry for that week. If I posted every day or second day, I would have finished this blog at the end of the previous paragraph, as I would not have had the time to mull over what I wish to say. That spell between posting gives me time to reflect on what I wish to write about and to not make my blog a garbled, unfocused mess. Sometimes I will take Friday off to post a few days later, because I want to make my points, clearly and succinctly. You want to have full control of where your blog is going and making sure it is compelling to people. From a writing point of view it is not only easier, but more interesting to come up with topics and speak about them.
