5 Amazing Artists That Are Waiting To Be Discovered On Youtube

With the algorithm on Youtube preferring a certain video style over others, some artists are not being found. These are few that deserve a bigger profile.

Lea Em

Lea Em.jpg

Lea is a children’s illustrator, who paints in watercolour and digital art. Most of the videos are speedlapses. She has a gift for telling a story through one artwork as seen in this video UNDERWATER WATERCOLOR ILLUSTRATION | From inspiration to final piece. Lea enjoys doing draw in your style challenges, such as RAINY DAY | Procreate drawing process (#dtiys by Devin Elle Kurtz). One thing that is apparent, is that Lea has her own style that is colourful, full of expression and wonderful composition. Her scene work often has her character doing something, which is something Will Terry said, you should aspire to, if you wish to be an Children’s illustrator. Because very few illustrator or concept artists are making a living from solely designing a character. You can also see how expressive Christa’s art is in SAVE THE EARTH | Watercolor speedpaint (Australian bushfire fundraiser). There is a professional look to her art that seems to be popular in children’s literature, and no wonder it is popular because it is beautiful. Like everyone here, Lea’s video are well lighted and filmed and they are waiting to be discovered.

Jordan Grimmer

Jordan Grimmer.jpg

Jordan is a digital artist who paints landscape scenes in an conceptual art style. He is wonderful with painting environmental scenes from scratch. There is a little Photobashing for people who don’t like it, as this is used in instances of adding a decaying mason wall or Earth as seen from above the atmosphere. It would understandably be time consuming and difficult to paint this on realistic manner. When Jordan is painting a rock or Icey scene he rarely photobashes, opting to painting everything from scratch. His videos are mostly tutorials or seeing his process. In some of his tutorials which deal with painting or photoshop topics, he chooses to use text not speech to teach a short tutorial, as he did in this video, How To Check Your Values With One Photoshop Shortcut. In longer tutorial he speaks and tries to teach the concepts in an easy to follow manner, as seen in this video, Sketching Efficient Landscapes: Tutorial. All his tutorials are broken into segments on Youtube, Jordan is a great teacher. He is also expectational at shading scenes much like Jeremy Fenske, he paints and shades the scene in grey tones before colouring it in. It is clear that Jordan loves using the magnet tool on Photoshop to help him paint each individual object. He has a strong understanding of Photoshop and uses it well to help him. Jordan has a great skill in using light in his scenes and often sunlight is falling on parts of the scene as seen here, Temple Entrance 360° Painting. Jordan being a professional artist who works for EA Industrial Toys, has learnt many things that not only improve your art, but make you paint quicker.

Christa Forrest

Christa is a portrait painter who also paints in other mediums such a landscape and abstract paintings. However a lot of Christa’s works are portraits of people. She clearly likes to try new things and as result you see how versatile she is. Her art uses a mixture of many different methods, such micron pens, acrylic, ink, pastel and watercolour paints depending on what medium she is painting. You can see her process in Time Lapse Creating in My Sketchbook - I Seek Truth, I love and Acrylic Portrait Speed Painting - Under the Moon & Stars Goddess. Christa has a preview of her tutorial painting an abstract artwork, Artful Inspirations: Floral Abstracts Ecourse. The video shows the process of a gorgeous abstract artwork, that has wonderful colour choices and a fun composition. Christa videos of he speed painting an artwork, are not narrate, but Christa has videos where she teaches people how to paint portraits, that is available on Creative Soul Live. In one the Youtube videos you can see a short video that introduces one of this courses and has one of her portraits in the background or Goddesses as Christa calls them. Her Portrait style is gorgeous, it is well shaded and expressive. Christa chooses interesting poses and styles for her Goddesses. In many art competitions, that versatility in having different styles is often prized by judges, or they seem to get bored. She has courses available on her website how to paint portraits including a free course on abstract art. Christa has a warm and inviting speaking style. But on Youtube Christa doesn’t have many videos, however beautifully composed and versatile artworks are wonderful to see them come to fruition. The fact that Christa has a fun casual, portrait style, which she juxtaposed with her, realistic and calming pastel landscape artworks. Then she further adds a realistic and technically skilled portrait style, is a great lesson in telling everyone to not be afraid of trying new things.

Gal Shir

Gal is an illustrator who paints digitally. His style is a mixture of graphic design with a cartoon style, as seen in this video Forest Ghosts | Digital Art with Procreate. Gal’s art is beautifully vibrant and he has a wonderful sense of composition in the manner he layers all the elements together. His art is quite calming to see being painted, as seen in these videos Savanna | Digital Art with iPad Pro and Digital Art - Underwater. Gal received a large number of views for this last video. Though some of his videos have many views others don’t, that again may be because of an posting schedule that the algorithm is unlikely to reward. That is why he is on this list. It is harder for artists to be noticed and stay noticed on Youtube. Years ago Gal recorded video tutorials, but his recent videos are all of him in real time painting, with music. His style especially would suit people who enjoy watching his Youtube videos for tranquil reasons.

M.Falconer

M.Falconer.jpg

Melissa is a pop art portrait painter who paints with acrylics. Her videos are often a mixture of Vlog with a speed video, of her painting a portrait from start to finish. There are videos that answer many questions that prospective artists have such as, How I do Commissions! | My Process. Melissa is charismatic and is fun to watch. As seen in the video Culture Show BTS & Angela Davis Live Painting | M.Falconer, Melissa is capable of painting a portrait in one live session. This is amazing, as portrait art requires a sense of proportion and composition to paint the person you intend to. It takes a lot of time and practice to master this skill. Not to mention learning how to shade and contouring. Melissa makes painting portraits look effortless and also has other videos such as, Finishing my First Painting of the Year | VLOG. This video shows how much time and effort it takes to bring a portrait into fruition when Melissa is not live painting in one session. You get a perspective and an understanding of the life of a portrait artist watching Melissa’s videos. For people who are thinking of being a portrait painter in the age of photography, it is interesting to hear Melissa’s thoughts and see her process. The Youtube algorithm is immensely difficult to become established and noticed. There are wonderful artists that are waiting to be discovered, so keep searching.

I would like to thank “Swan Creates”, for her video of 10 Black creators on Youtube, who suggested Melissa on her video.
