Approaches No. 1 Flower - Warratah

Approaches No. 1 Warratah

For this week it is an easy painting, of an Australian native flower called a Warratah. The point of this exercise is not to mimic my painting, but to make your artwork of a Warratah. This is my approach to painting this flower in stages and everyone will have a different methodology. You will likely have a unique perception and approach to painting this artwork.

What Do You Need

Watercolour paints

Watercolour Ink

Paper, the best you can buy, this was painted on Arches paper

Pens

Procedure

Stage one - Draw a detailed drawing in pencil, from a reference photo.

Stage 2 - Paint the background, this will take many layers.

Step Three- Start to work on the focal point of the painting which is the flower. Notice the differentiations of colour and shading.

Stage Four - Next paint the multi hued petals with shading. I outline every object with pens.

Stage five- Finish the stem and start the green leaves by outlining them.

Step Six - Finish the leaves, look carefully at all the details, shade and finish them correctly. These little details are important, they add another dimension to the painting.
